There are a variety of ways to promote your blog but in order to do it correctly from the start your efforts must be measured. To do this analytic tools with varied features are placed on your blog to measure predetermined goals.

Analytics offers the foundation for developing a clear comprehensive picture of your blog.  Google Analytics offers support where ever needed.

An additional feature of Google Analytics is to install a plugin on your WordPress dashboard.

Getting Started

After you have created your Google Analytics account the next step is to:

1. Choose Your Objective
What is it you are trying to accomplish? Drive sales, increase subscribers, launch product/service or retain existing customers. (See below Facebook ads manager for a list of goals and objectives).

If your decision is to drive sales – specifically 100 products sold each month from face book or Google Adwords at a cost of $10 per sale.

2. Set Up User Behaviour Tracking Analysis

Once you have decided on a particular goal e.g drive sales, you will first need to look at data to see where current sales are coming from. This will help you to know where to advertise and how to advertise more effectively.

Google Analytics lets you analyse user behaviour access what improvements are needed to ensure its success.

3. Collecting Data 

You will first need to add a small piece of code to each page of your blog.  After code is added data is immediately generated in Google Analytics real time reports.

1.To add tracking code to your site, open the Admin page in Google Analytics.  In the Property column, open tracking info

2. Click tracking code

3. Go to Appearance —> Editor

4. Copy and paste the snippet before the closing header tag on each webpage you want to track.

After installing tracking code you can set up business goals in Google Analytics.

4. Define Goal(s)

Goals are the best way to measure important events on your blog.  A goal could be completing a purchase, reading articles or moving up a level in a game.  Understanding how users complete these important activities is critical to evaluating the success of your blog.

Open the Admin page in Google Analytics and in the View column, click goals.

Click New Goal. You can use one of the Google Analytics templates or you can create your own custom template.

After creating goals, link your Google Analytics and Adwords account so you can use Google Analytics to get a clear picture of Adwords performance (Face Book, Craig’s list, Bing or others).

5. Identify Critical actions users need to take on your site, e.g fill out the CONTACT form or WATCH VIDEO etc.
6. Link Google Analytics tracking code to marketing account (e.g Adwords accounts) so you can evaluate your marketing
7. Audit Report Analysis in real time to better understand user performance and demographics.

 

Google Adwords is a marketing platform to advertise your blog/website.  You can use it to attract new customers and to retain existing customers.

  1. To link your accounts, open the Admin page
  2. In the property column, click Adwords linking and then circle new ink group so you can choose which accounts link.

After you have set up tracking, created your goals and linked your accounts you can use the reports to quickly understand how well your business is performing. Use the goals report to see how often critical actions occur on your site.  Use Adwords report to see how often your Adwords campaigns generate goal conversions.
